Markdown is a lightweight markup language that you can use to add formatting elements to plaintext text documents. Created by John Gruber in 2004, Markdown is now one of the world’s most popular markup languages.

Why we Use Markdown
There are a number of reasons we use Markdown:
- To allow any HTML input would expose our systems to potential vulnerabilities
- Markdown is an easy to use, easy to parse text-based mark up language.
- It’s supposed to be easy to read
